Barry Bannan reveals what shocked him when he first joined Sheffield Wednesday

There’s a long-running joke among Sheffield Wednesday fans that a new signing has to use the word ‘massive’ when he is first interviewed as an Owls player.

However, even if he did say that upon moving to Hillsborough, Barry Bannan wasn’t quite geared up for what was coming his way.

The Scot has admitted he was surprised by just how big Sheffield Wednesday is.

Bannan, speaking to the club’s website, says he was aware he was joining a huge club, but the size was greater than he could have imagined.

“I was just really taken aback by how big the club was,” he told swfc.co.uk. “When I came I knew they were a big club because the FA Cup games would be played at Hillsborough back in the day. But I didn’t really expect them to be as big they are with the fanbase.

“Even now when I’m on holiday, you always bump into a Sheffield Wednesday fan!”
