The big striker netted a superb hat-trick as Wednesday thrashed Norwich City 5-1 on the final day of the Championship season.

Nuhiu, who has scored 30 goals in 175 league matches since moving to Hillsborough in July 2013, said: “Everybody knows what Sheffield Wednesday means to me.

“We are in negotiations and I think there will also be negotiations going on this week so let’s see.

“I cannot say something that I can’t promise. It is going in the right direction.

“For me, in England, Sheffield Wednesday have been the club who opened the door me.

“Of course, I will not turn back on them very easily. I hope we can find a solution but the club also needs to fight for me and they do it.”

Nuhiu’s treble on the final day of the 2017/18 season took the Kosovo international’s tally to 13 in all competitions.

“I was very happy for Atdhe he scored three goals but also for the team (against Norwich),” said manager Jos Luhukay.

“It’s very for us important to keep Atdhe. He is a fantastic character and person.

“He has a good feeling with this club and team. We hope we can find a solution in the next days and has a positive future with us.

Asked if he is confident Nuhiu will stay put, Luhukay said: “I think Atdhe will stay with us. He has a good feeling. He feels well here in Sheffield and with the team.”

Victory over the Canaries lifted the Owls up to 15th spot and means they finished the campaign well, recording six victories from their final nine fixtures.
