There was a boost for the Owls when Garry Monk named his XI to face Rotherham United as Tom Lees was named in side for the first time since the 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers, although Dominic Iorfa wasn’t deemed fit enough to make the 18-man squad.

That good news, however, was dampened when his defensive partner, Aden Flint, had to be taken off after just 17 minutes of play – another day, another injury for Monk’s backline. And then made critical when Lees was sent off not long before half-time. It doesn’t make for pretty reading.

With Iorfa not yet ready, Wednesday’s injury list at centre back consists of him, Chey Dunkley, Osaze Urhoghide, Liam Shaw and now Flint. There’s also the fact that Joost van Aken is missing tonight – and for the next two games – due to his sending off in the 1-0 defeat to Luton Town, and now Lees is also suspended.

Liam Palmer had to come on in the right side of the central three, and Julian Börner has not looked particularly comfortable throughout the game so far – it certainly felt like he could’ve done more for Rotherham’s opener.

Now, with the Owls 2-0 down at the time of writing, things are looking increasingly bleak in terms of their defence, and Monk will be hoping for two things ahead of this weekend’s Wycombe Wanderers clash – a) that Flint’s injury isn’t a bad one, and b) that Iorfa can get himself in contention ASAP.
