Tony Pulis says that Sheffield Wednesday loanee, Jack Marriott, has returned to Derby County as he recovers from injury, with the striker unlikely to feature again this year.

Marriott joined the Owls on loan from Derby on transfer deadline day not that long ago, but now it appears that he will not be playing any more games in blue and white before 2020 comes to an end in a few weeks’ time.

The 26-year-old becomes the latest injury casualty at Wednesday in what has been a rough couple of months in that regard, and joins Aden Flint as another player who will not be available to Pulis for the foreseeable future.

Wasn't much fun... Plenty of 5s - Owls ratings on Tony Pulis' debut to forget

Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat away at Preston North End, Pulis explained that the forward will be out for ‘six or seven weeks’.

The new Wednesday manager said, “Jack’s back at Derby, I think he’s long-term… He’s going to be long-term, obviously Flinty is long-term as well. So we’re not going to see either of those two.

“It was his calf I think, whatever it was it’ll be six or seven weeks I think.”

The injury compounds Pulis’ problems in terms of player selection, with Kadeem Harris missing the next two games due to suspension while Josh Windass – who was sent off today – will now miss the next three.

Next up for Pulis and his charges is a trip to Swansea City on Wednesday night as they seek to get back to winning ways and take their next opportunity to get out of the Championship relegation zone.
