Both teams cancelled each other out in a dour Championship affair.

Here, Owls writer Dom Howson picks out four talking points.

Alessio Da CruzWednesday looked bereft of ideas and quality in the final third until the arrival of Fernando Forestieri and Alessio Da Cruz. New boy Da Cruz made a big impact after coming on midway through the second half. He was bright, positive and drove at the Millwall defence.

His energy and extra pace helped spark the Owls into life. It was an encouraging cameo from the Dutchman.

"We saw glimpses of what Alessio can offer,” said Monk. “I thought both him and Fernando [Forestieri] had an impact when they came on.

“They showed good quality.”

No cutting edge

Monk's side had 15 efforts on goal but only forced Bartosz Białkowski into action on two occasions. Their composure and decision-making repeatedly let them down in and around Millwall's penalty area.

It is safe to say new recruits Connor Wickham and Josh Windass, who were ineligible to face the Lions, will both figure at Barnsley next week.

A draw was a fair result but the Lions could have grabbed a late winner. Substitute Jon Dadi Bodvarsson caught the Owls napping at the back in added on time. He beat the offside trap and broke clear only to send his lob over the bar.

It was a better performance from Wednesday after their Wigan horror-show but Bodvarsson let them off the hook.

A lack of entertainment on home soil

The draw means Wednesday are unbeaten in six home league matches against Millwall (W3 D3), a run going back to September 2005.

But the Owls have fired blanks in each of their last three outings at Hillsborough. Club captain Tom Lees scored their last goal on home soil in the team's 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City in their final outing of 2019.

Not only are Wednesday sliding down the table, but Monk's side have now failed to win on their own turf since December 22.
