Goal ace Adam Reach says Sheffield Wednesday must learn from the individual errors that cost them dearly in their home defeat to Middlesbrough.

Two quickfire second half strikes by Mo Besic, on loan from Everton, and Britt Assombalonga helped Boro climb to the top of the Championship.

Besic, an influential figure through, drilled a low, angled right-foot shot from 12 yards past Cameron Dawson for the opener before Owls captain Tom Lees gifted Boro their second after a dreadful back pass. Besic raced through on goal and teed up Assombalonga for an easy tap in.

‘We were by far the better team’ says Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis

Reach, playing against his former club, handed Wednesday a lifeline in the 82nd minute, halving the deficit with a stunning right foot volley but Boro held on to condemn Jos Luhukay's team to a first home league loss of the season.

"It was really frustrating," Reach told The Star. "We were all disappointed because we didn't think we were outplayed.

Sheffield Wednesday match report: Owls 1 Middlesbrough 2

"We made a couple of individual errors, which is unlike us. We haven't done any of them this season. Unfortunately when you make them against a team with Middlesbrough's quality you are going to get punished.

"We gave it a little go when we got the goal back but we just couldn't quite get there.

"Middlesbrough are a good side and they are going to be in the top six, if not the top two, so we have to take the positives that we played well at times but we have to learn from our mistakes as well.

"You have to concentrate for 90 minutes. You can't take your foot off the gas for a second. Everyone makes mistakes but against the top teams you will get punished. Most punishments are goals and if you concede two goals at home like that it's very difficult to come back from that."
