It perhaps provided Garry Monk’s men with a marker for where they need to be this season, but who stood out in a disappointing return to action?
Let’s take a look at the player ratings from the owls trip to the Hawthorns.
9. Kadeem Harris - 7
Led the Wednesday charge early doors with his direct running. Looked a threat as he flip-flopped flanks with Murphy but failed to produce that killer moment. Was surprisingly hooked for Adam Reach after the goal. Photo: Steve Ellis
10. Jacob Murphy - 6
A classic Murphy performance from what we've seen of him at Wednesday. Showed glimpses of pace and direction but failed to deliver anything in the way of quality in the final third. Photo: Nigel French
11. Steven Fletcher - 7
Put himself about and was in the wars, taking several knocks as West brom set about nullifying him. His battle with Kyle Bartley was a key one but he was largely isolated. Broke his six-game duck from the spot. Photo: Steve Ellis
12. Adam Reach - 6
On for Harris after an hour with a point to prove. Didn't quite produce the direct impact of his cameo against Swansea but was able to support Fletcher better than his rivals on the wing have managed for a while. Photo: Simon Cooper
