Here we take a look at some of your favourite international stars, suggested by supporters on Twitter and Facebook, who have graced the Hillsborough turf down the years.
5. Benito Carbone, Italy
The diminutive Italian attacker spent three exciting seasons at Hillsborough after joining in 1996, playing almost 100 games and scoring some incredibly memorable goals in the blue and white stripes before he eventually moved on to play for the likes of Aston Villa and Bradford City ahead of a return to the country of his birth. 6. Niklas Alexandersson, Sweden
Winger Alexandersson became a huge fan favourite during his three years at S6. He was the club's standout performer in the sorry 1999/2000 season which saw the Owls, mired in financial disarray, get relegated to the second tier of English football. That season Alexandersson bagged eight goals in all competitions and the player of the year award. “It felt strange that season," said the Swede, speaking to The Star earlier this year. "The club was relegated but for me it was my best season in my time in England. When the team struggled it brought something out in me, I don't know why.” Photo: Chris Lobina
7. Regi Blinker, The Netherlands
Blinker made an instant impact for the Owls, after joining from Feyenoord in his native homeland, in March 1996 by scoring a brace on his debut in a 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa. However, the winger went on to score only one more goal during his time with the club and by August 1997 had left for Celtic as part of the deal which brought Paolo Di Canio to S6. Blinker was suspended by FIFA for a time at the end of 1996 after it was discovered he had signed for Udinese Calcio in Italy without telling the management at Feyenoord before his move to Hillsborough. 8. Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu, Democratic Republic of the Congo
Ndumbu-Nsungu joined Wednesday in August 2003 and topped the club's goalscoring charts the following season as he netted 10 goals in 35 league appearances. He won the club's player of the season award but thereafter struggled to match his first season feats and spent time on a short loan with Championship side Preston North End before being released in 2005.
