NEW striker Rodri starred as Sheffield Wednesday clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory against Birmingham City at Hillsborough, writes Dom Howson.

The Spanish forward, who joined the Owls on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona B yesterday, gave Dave Jones’ men a two-goal cushion following Reda Johnson’s 14th minute opener.

Birmingham City substitute Nikola Zigic reduced the visitors arrears with 12 minutes remaining.

But the lively Jermaine Johnson wrapped up the points in the 89th minute to stretch Wednesday’s unbeaten run under manager Dave Jones to 15 matches. In added on time, Marlon King converted from the spot but the Owls held on.

Rodri was one of two changes made by Jones. With Anthony Gardner ruled out with a hamstring injury, Mark Beevers deputised at centre-half.
