Ticket office manager Alastair Wilson told The Star: “We have smashed our record. It’s a great achievement and the fans should be applauded. Everything has been received very positively.”

The Owls boasted one of the best home records in the division last season as they came within a whisker of securing promotion to the Premier League. Only Hull City, who beat them in the Championship Play-Off final last month, managed more home goals than them. Carlos Carvalhal’s side lost on just two occasions at Hillsborough.

Fans have enjoyed Wednesday’s attractive style of play under Carvalhal, with over 40,000 cheering them on at Wembley.

With the early bird season tickets period set to run until July 1, Wilson has not ruled out Wednesday breaking the 20,000 barrier.

“It’s a possibility,” he said. “Even after the Play-Off final defeat, there is a real buzz around the club.”

Tickets are priced at £445 adults, £255 concessions, £150 Under 17s and £75 U11s on the Kop. For more information, ring 03700 201867 (option one).
