Daniel Pudil has hailed his Owls teammate David Jones, claiming the midfielder has played a vital role in the club's surge up the Championship.

Following a stop-start opening to his Hillsborough career, Jones has started each of Wednesday’s last three league fixtures.

The 31-year-old, recruited from Burnley for an undisclosed fee, has added extra steel to the Owls’ midfield and is expected to line up against his former club Derby County this Saturday.

Pudil told The Star: “I’m really happy for David. I think he has settled down very well and we need players playing in this position. He does a lot of the dirty work and is doing really well.David is good with the ball too, and gives the right pass.

“Last year, Hutch [Sam Hutchinson] played here and did very well. He was there if something went wrong.

“Because we have so many good players in midfield, we need one who does a holding role and breaks up the play of the opposition.”

Wednesday lie in fifth position after winning six of their last 10 matches.

Things are looking fairly rosy right now but Czech Republic international Pudil is refusing to get carried away.

“We need to win four or five games in a row and then we can stay in the top six,” said the former Watford and Genk defender.

“We are in a better position than last season, playing well, and lost a couple of games, but that’s the Championship. Every game is hard.”
