South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the match was delayed for approximately 10 minutes to allow the ground to be searched thoroughly.
The spokesperson said: "The ground was searched thoroughly by club staff and as a precautionary measure, kick off was delayed to allow those searches to take place".
Sheffield United are now sixth in the Premier League table after the 1-1 draw.
