Zak Brunt admits what went wrong for Sheffield United in their U23s final defeat to Birmingham City

United were billed as the favourites in this final, playing on their home ground against a side they had beaten twice in the regular season – including a 5-0 hammering last time out.
United had also taken apart Ipswich Town 4-0 in the play-off semi-finals, but a repeat was not on the cards as City prevailed 2-0 thanks to two goals in the first 15 minutes from 18-year-old Adan George, who was a threat throughout.

“To not win today does hurt us. The performance wasn't good enough. We didn't play like we usually do, didn't do the things we're good at and that win us games, and fair play to them.
“They were the better team today. We should have been better. We should have turned up, and it's difficult to see for all the boys.”
It could have been worse for the Blades, too, with goalkeeper Marcus Dewhurst forced to make a number of saves to keep the scoreline down. His opposite number Oliver Basey, meanwhile, was relatively untroubled throughout.

“Today, we struggled to get near them, they were comfortable on the ball and we weren't at it. So it was an easy day for them.
“A goal always knocks you back but we know we have goals in the team, that's the most disappointing thing. We have been so good this season so to concede twice is disappointing.
“As is not really creating anything. We didn’t look like scoring today.
