SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson hopes Ched Evans will stay at Bramall Lane if the South Yorkshire club clinch promotion this season.
The Wales international has scored 18 goals in 25 appearances since returning from injury in September but his contract expires at the end of the campaign. Although Evans would have to accept a substantial cut in salary to remain with United – irrespective of whether they reach the Championship – Wilson said: “I think we’ve seen a massive change in the boy over the last 12 months or so. He’s a different person.
“In these situations I always look at it from the player’s perspective and think what I’d do if I were in their shoes. I’m sure Ched wants to play at the highest level he can.
“But if you’re asking me would he think about still being with us, well, I’d like to think so. Ched has a lot of things going on in his life at the moment but he’s made a complete commitment to his football.
“He’s managed to put all of them aside and is concentrating on nothing else. It’s working a treat and I think he’s enjoying himself here.”
