SHEFFIELD United manager Danny Wilson has quashed speculation linking him with a move for Jon-Paul McGovern.

Reports earlier this week claimed the Swindon Town midfielder, who enjoyed a brief spell on loan at Bramall Lane earlier in his career, was poised to become the 51-year-old’s first signing since taking charge of the South Yorkshire club.

But Wilson last night insisted McGovern does not feature on United’s list of targets.

“There are a lot of people out there who are putting two and two together and then coming-up with odd numbers,” he said. “A lot of what I read is just hearsay and conjecture.

“There’s nothing in it. We haven’t spoken to JP.”

Wilson, who left the County Ground in March, is rumoured to be interested in capturing Jean-Francois Lescinel having previously worked with the Haiti international in Wiltshire.

Lescinel, aged 24, progressed through the ranks at Paris St Germain before stints with Sedan, Guingamp and Falkirk.

Wilson also appeared to rule-out moves for West Bromwich Albion’s Joe Mattock and Shane Lowry of Aston Villa. Both were recruited on a temporary basis by his predecessor Micky Adams.

However, Wilson did confirm that he would be interested in talking with Rob Kozluk about the possibility of extending his stay at United.

The full-back’s deal expires shortly.
