United have enjoyed two promotions in three seasons under Chris Wilder and can move up to fifth place in the Premier League if they beat Moyes’ side at Bramall Lane tonight (Friday).

And Moyes, who has returned for a second spell in charge at the Hammers following the sacking of Manuel Pellegrini in December, has paid tribute to Wilder for doing a ‘brilliant job’ in guiding the Blades from League One to challenging for a European berth in such a short time.

“I have to say I didn't see their success coming immediately in Premier League, but I shouldn't have been surprised because the manager's done a brilliant job,” said Moyes.

"They've all come up from the lower leagues and shown that they can play in the Premier League, and I think that comes from having a really good team and manager, and they all know what's expected from them.

"I quite enjoy seeing managers who have to earn their stripes, prove themselves in the lower leagues, and then they move up.

“It's not a fluke, and that's why we shouldn't be surprised with how well Sheffield United have done."

Moyes has won his first two matches since returning to the Hammers but will head to Bramall Lane without the services of right-back Ryan Fredericks, who injured a hamstring in the 1-0 win over Gillingham in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
