This is why Sheffield United WON'T be changing their system anytime soon

Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, has explained why a change of system is off the table despite seeing injuries wreak havoc with his defence.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s game against Leicester City, Wilder insisted no stone is being left unturned in the search for a solution to the problems which see United enter the fixture at the bottom of the Premier League table and without a win this term.

Although finishing has been an issue - United have scored only four goals in 10 outings - the loss of Jack O’Connell, exacerbated by fitness issues concerning Enda Stevens and Ethan Ampadu, saw Kean Bryan become the latest player Wilder has selected at left centre-half during last weekend’s defeat by West Bromwich Albion.

With Jack Robinson also being tested in that role, United have faced calls to abandon their 3-5-2 formation until an experienced replacement for O’Connell is found.

But Wilder said: “There would have been no downside to us having a fully fit and a fully settled squad. Our recruitment is tailored to the way we play. I could change, I could switch, I’ve done it before. But our system relies on a degree of consistency in terms of team selection, and I don’t think it would help the players.”

Both Stevens and Ampadu are set to undergo fitness tests later today after missing the visit to The Hawthorns. John Fleck and Lys Mousset have both recently returned following spells on the treatment table, although the latter is unlikely to start against City.
