United trailed until the 83rd minute at the Emirates, after Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners in front on the stroke of half time.

But the excellent John Fleck struck a sweet effort into Bernd Leno’s top corner with seven minutes to go, and Oli McBurnie later saw a good chance to win the game for the Blades blocked.

VAR backed up Mike Dean’s decision not award Arsenal a penalty and Wilder said: "I don't think we were anywhere near our best today.

"The result is better than the performance, the game was not put to bed by the opposition.

"When teams don't put you to bed, we have an opportunity to get something from the game. We need to play a lot better than that for us to regularly pick up points."
