In the week that Arsene Wenger revealed his apparent plans to reform VAR in relation to offsides – only for football’s lawmakers to deny it was an option, at least in time for this summer’s European Championships – United were visited by Simon Morgan, the Premier League’s head of football relations.

Morgan met with Wilder, skipper Billy Sharp and vice-captain Ollie Norwood to talk through their experiences of VAR, and what they think could be improved.

“I’ve had my view on VAR but it’s not going to go away.

“If it’s going to stay, the obvious one has been these tight offside calls. What we should be doing is looking to give the advantage to the forwards.

“We’ve seen some great play, not just from us. We’re looking for more advantage for attackers, more goals and entertainment. Surely that’s to the benefit of the game.”
