Hide AdA 'Terror Tuesday' session on their pre-season tour was designed to take players well out of their comfort zone in the Portuguese heat, while Wilder orders his charges to train how they play - leaving many of Jack O'Connell's teammates relieved to be on his side in small-sided games.
"The training is really tough... it's really intense," McBurnie admitted, ahead of Saturday's trip to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal.
"It's a lot tougher than I've experienced before in my career and it's something I had to get used to for the first couple of months. It was a really big shock to my system.
"But I'm starting to notice the rewards now. I'm starting to feel a lot stronger and fitter to play in the Premier League.
"We do weights, gym work. A lot of that. You have to. Playing in the Premier League is very different. But you can't argue with the methods. It's working for us."
