Why Newcastle United fans are in meltdown over Sheffield United ownership update

A companies house document regarding Sheffield United owner Prince Abdullah has sent Newcastle United fans into meltdown.

The Magpies are subject of a £300million takeover - heavily backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia - subject to Premier League approval.

The update on ‘The Sheffield United Football Club Limited’ states: “Abdullah Bin Mosa'ad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saudhas ceased to be ‘a person with significant control’ as of October 2019”.

It had been previously reported in the North East that Prince Abdullah’s involvement in the Blades could impact Newcastle’s proposed Saudi takeover due to potential conflict of interests.

Toon fans, who have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of their new ownership, have jumped on the news, questioning if it points towards any new developments.
