Wilder's men were seventh in the table when the Premier League was suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak, two points off what is likely to be the final Champions League place.

United will also have a game in hand over Manchester United when the football season eventually restarts.

And Egan, speaking to Irish Football Fan TV, described Wilder as "the biggest influence on my pro career so far".

"He kept faith with me from day one, when I wasn't playing so well, and I've gone from strength to strength under him and Alan Knill.

"The manager is brilliant and has been unbelievable for me, personally. He gets the best out of us every day.

"We give ourselves a chance in every game and that stems from the work on the training ground.

"To come up from the Championship and do what we've done is tough. Norwich and Aston Villa came up with us and have been in a relegation battle all year.

"Everyone thought we were odds on to go down so to be pushing for Europe shows just how well we're doing.

"The Premier League is a really tough league - probably the hardest in the world.

"So we're happy with what we're doing, but we want more. That's the way we are, and that's the way the manager is as well."
