Wilder, his senior coaching staff and chief executive Stephen Bettis saw their pay and bonus deferrals announced first, before an announcement confirming the players had followed suit.

“It's the least we can do to play our part,” said Wilder. “We were asked by the football club and it's important to look after the club in the right way.

“I've had some lovely messages thanking me, but it’s not a huge deal. The players will say that.

“Our profession got a bit of bad press, people coming out with stuff they didn’t need to, but the players have handled it magnificently. The staff support our decisions, of me and Steve Bettis, and in the next six months this might help the club so it’s the least we can do.”
