Why Chris Wilder believes Billy Sharp may have more in the tank after booking Sheffield United's FA Cup quarter-final place

Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, heaped praise on his "brilliant" skipper Billy Sharp after his extra-time winner booked the Blades an FA Cup quarter-final berth.

Sharp came off the bench to score United's second in their 2-1 win over Championship side Reading at the Madejski Stadium, after George Puscas had cancelled out David McGoldrick's opening headed goal from the penalty spot.

Victory booked United's first quarter-final spot since 2014 in the competition, which they have not won since 1925.

And of Sharp, whose strike was his third of the campaign, boss Wilder said: "He's been brilliant on and off the pitch.

"He's not played a lot of football leading up to Christmas but he's kept himself in great shape and he's always had a part to play.

"He epitomises what we're about, selfless, when he plays there's still life in him - who's to say that he's not got a little bit more left in the tank?

"He's a natural finisher, it's a brilliant goal from our point of view."

The fifth-round tie looked to be ambling towards a penalty shootout when George Baldock was adjudged to have pushed over Andy Rinomhota on the stroke of half-time, and Puscas confidently converted his penalty past Dean Henderson.

United had led since the second minute when David McGoldrick, making his first start since returning from injury, headed past home goalkeeper Rafael after the excellent pair of Luke Freeman and Ben Osborn combined down the left wing.
