Media reports suggest that a growing number of top-flight managers are behind the idea of a break in the season.

United became the latest club to be hit by Covid-19 cases when they returned "a number" of positive tests in the build-up to Tuesday's defeat at Turf Moor. Backroom staff and players were amongst those who now have to self-isolate for 10 days in line with Government guidelines.

And Basham, speaking this morning ahead of United's trip to Crystal Palace, said: "The protocols are all there and we're doing our best to keep it [Covid] away.

"The family are concerned because it's in the club, but were doing everything right. We're following the protocols and looking forward to the game.

"We've always been extra careful, and we're doing our best to keep it away.

"That [a pause in the season] is something I don't think is really up for me but as a Sheffield United footballer I think we need to keep going and find a win as soon as possible."

United haven't played in front of their own fans since March's victory over Norwich.

"The year's been tough," Basham added.

"Not having the fans is a massive thing for a club like ourselves that is very close with the fans.

"Since the Norwich game we've found it hard. We can't wait to get the year over with and hopefully 2021 will be brighter for all of us."
