Whatever happened to Jordan Slew? The £1.1million ex-Sheffield United man now playing in the eighth tier of English football

Sheffield United travel to Blackburn Rovers tonight in the Championship, but do you remember the man who left Bramall Lane for Ewood Park in a £1.1million deal in 2011?

The million-pound man, Jordan Slew, is now playing for Radcliffe FC in the eighth tier of English football.

Slew started his career at the Blades after growing up in Sheffield and progressing through United’s academy system.

The 26-year-old made his debut in October 2010 in a 1-0 home defeat for United against Watford, before signing his first professional deal one month later.

After impressing for both the first team and the youth team he caught the eye of a number of Premier League and Championship clubs, sealing his big money move to Blackburn on deadline day in August 2011.

He also made two England under-19 appearances in 2011 against Germany and the Netherlands.

The striker had to wait four months to make his Rovers debut but struggled to break into the first team, which resulted in loan spells to Stevenage, Oldham, Rotherham, Ross County and Port Vale from 2012 to 2014.

A move to Cambridge United followed the termination of his Blackburn contract in January 2015 but after one goal in 23 appearances, Slew left the club by mutual consent in February 2016.

Spells at Chesterfield, Plymouth Argyle and Rochdale followed until he joined Northern Premier League Division One North club Radcliffe in January 2018.
