Goalkeeper Simon Moore, the Professional Footballers’ Association’s representative at Bramall Lane, has been canvassing opinion among his team mates about ‘Project Restart’ and will feed them back to official’s at the union’s headquarters in Manchester.

The findings will then be used as part of the PFA’s presentation to another meeting tomorrow, which will also involve the League Managers Association and the PL itself.

United were seventh in the table when sporting competition across England was suspended in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.

With plans being unveiled aimed at completing the fixture schedule by the end of July, United’s squad and other top-flight sides have been told to prepare for a full return to training shortly after recently being invited to take part in small scale sessions following nearly two months in lockdown.

But with several high-profile members of the PFA voicing concerns about the scheduling, a number of measures are set to be introduced to protect their safety.

They include regular on site testing, a ban on tackling and other close contact activity while equipment such as flags and cones would have to be cleaned after use. Even the pitches themselves, if the PFA gives the go-ahead, are set to be disinfected on a daily basis.

Experts involved in drawing up the proposals, which require government approval before being implemented, will also order players to travel to work alone, scrub down the interior of their cars with appropriate cleaning agents, and avoid public transport.

George Baldock, the United defender, has admitted he is prepared to quarantine himself inside a hotel in between games in order to complete a season which could see Wilder’s side qualify for Europe only a year after being promoted from the Championship.

Seventh in the table and in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which also provides a route into the Europa League, United were only five points outside the Champions League positions when the campaign was mothballed.
