The new man in charge mentioned United a couple of times during the briefing and went on to say that if his side managed to make it back into the top flight then they would be top dogs in the city.

Pulis said: “When you look at the football club and in respect to the enormous support they get, you know, no disrespect to Sheffield United, but I think if you got this club into the Premier League it would be the biggest club in Sheffield.

Wilder and Pulis are good friends and the Blades boss had the opportunity to react to the claims made bu his mate on Monday, when he had his own press conference ahead of United’s Premier League match against West Ham on Sunday.

The Blades boss didn’t, however, take the bait this time around.

"Has he got a job, me old pal?” joked Wilder.
