What Sam Allardyce thought was the “defining moment” of Sheffield United’s victory over West Brom

Bottom-club Blades moved to within a point of the Baggies in the table as goals from Jayden Bogle and Billy Sharp turned the game around after Matt Phillips had put the visitors ahead.

But at 1-1, Ramsdale made a superb block from close range to keep out former Blade Callum Robinson, although replays later suggested that Robinson may have been slightly offside as he met a cross from the right.

Sharp went on to turn home the winning goal for only United's second home win of the season, and Allardyce thought Ramsdale's moment of magic was decisive.

"They were just about to bring Billy off and the next moment he scored a goal," Allardyce said.

"But the biggest moment in the game was the save from Ramsdale. We'd have been 2-1 up and with our defensive frailties we might not have won the game but I don't think we'd have lost it, and that was the defining moment for us in the game.

"We conceded two scruffy goals that should have been avoided. We didn't defend two balls in our box.

"Sam [Johnstone, Baggies 'keeper] hasn't had a difficult save to make and we created the best chance of the game. They were the defining moments of the game. That big save from their goalkeeper gave them the opportunity to win the game, for me."
