United, who started with trialist David McGoldrick up front, strolled into a 2-0 lead with goals from John Fleck and Leon Clarke.

After a host of changes for both teams - United brought on another trialist in goalkeeper Luke Steele, the home side got back into the game through Jack Payne.

Jordan Gibson equalised for the Bantams with a little under 10 minutes remaining but Billy Sharp's deflected effort secured a well-deserved win for United, their third in a row this summer after victories over Stocksbridge Park Steels and Maritimo.

"Pre-season is important," Wilder said. "The results matter, at least they do to me. And, barring one bad experience at Halifax a while back, I've got to say the lads' attitude for the three I've had here has been brilliant, absolutely brilliant, all the way the way through."

"It wasn't so long back we were playing Bradford and having some real battles with them," Wilder continued. "So, looking at that first-half, I think you can see how far we've progressed. I've got to say, if I was in their dressing room at half-time, I'd have expected a rocket because they didn't lay a glove on us. Fair play, they did better after the break."
