It was a night when history was created as Chris Wilder’s men became the first Yorkshire team to win at Old Trafford in the Premier League era.

It was also a night when United won their first game at the home of the Red Devils since 1973 when Tony Currie was in his pomp.

But more importantly it was a remarkable victory against the odds and one which could just kick-start an unlikely comeback as the Blades look to beat the drop and pull off the great escape.

But it doesn’t need a rocket scientist to tell anyone at United that they need to produce a plethora of similar results if they are to avoid the drop to the Championship.

They go into Saturday’s game at Manchester City still 10 points adrift of safety and Match of the Day pundit Dion Dublin, who played for the Red Devils in the early 90s, believes Wilder has the managerial know-how to steer his side to safety.

"Out of all the managers in this league, Chris Wilder will not lie down and he will make sure the boys will go for this,” said Dublin, in response to host Gary Lineker’s question about United’s chances of staying in the top flight.

His fellow studio guest Martin Keown, the former Arsenal and Everton defender, was not drawn on the subject and instead opted to highlight Phil Jagielka’s man of the match performance in only his third start of the season.

"He’s 38 years of age and doesn’t know if he’s going to play in the Premier League again . . . or at Old Trafford or anywhere . . . and the performance of the back three was resolute. They thoroughly deserved that win, they played really well.”
