What happened the LAST SIX times Sheffield United played Leeds United

It was one of the first fixtures fans looked out for when the list was revealed last month and though sadly there’ll not be any fans there to see a season highlight, it’s still well worth looking forward to.

Sheffield United host Leeds United at Bramall Lane on Sunday with Yorkshire pride at stake and perhaps a little revenge on the part of the visitors who were bashed out of the way during the Blades’ push for promotion from the Championship two seasons ago.

There’s often plenty to talk about when the sides meet and here's what’s happened the last six times the Uniteds clashed.

We may be working our way back but it’s approporiate that the best comes up first. With both teams in the hunt for promotion, the Blades dealt their rivals a huge blow by picking up a win at Elland Road thanks to a now iconic goal from Chris Basham. The victory give Chris Wilder’s side a massive boost on the way to booking a top flight place and at the same time put the wobbles on Leeds who never really recovered and blew their automatic promotion chances, before bowing out in the play-offs, too.

Sheffield United 0 Leeds United 1 – December 1, 2018

Leeds took the honours in this tight affair with a late goal that owed more to the Blades’ defence than anything the visitors did. John Egan and Dean Henderson got themselves in a right old muddle and when the keeper attempted to clear a poor backpass, the ball fell straight to Jack Clark who fed Pablo Hernandez for the winner. The victory put Leeds on top of the Championship and was their first win at the Lane since 1992.

Skipper Billy Sharp, who of course was once of Leeds, was the Blades hero in this one with a double to sink his old side. Sharp had United ahead with a brilliant volley from Mark Duffy’s cross before Pierre-Michel Lasogga headed in an equaliser. However, Billy popped up with the winner from the spot after John Fleck had been upended by Eunan O’Kane. The match was current Blades under 23s boss Paul Heckingbottom’s first as manager of Leeds.

Having not long returned to the Championship after a six year absense, the Blades were on top of it after a dramatic win over Leeds at Elland Road. Mark Duffy turned in a man of the match peformance, ripping apart the home side as United led from the second minute thanks to that man Sharp. Kalvin Phillips equalised for Leeds before half time and the match appaeared to be heading for a draw until David Brooks popped up in the 81st minute with a winner – his first for the club.

Sheffield United 2 Leeds United 0 – March 19, 2011

We go all the way back to 2011 for the next one and this was one to remember too as they struggled at the bottom end of the Championship and had only recently put to bed a streak of 13 matches without a win. Eric Lichaj's own goal put the Blades in front as he turned a Nick Montgomery effort past Kasper Schmeichel and Bjorn Helge Riise doubled the lead before Billy Paynter was sent off for a stamp on Shane Lowry.

Leeds United 1 Sheffield United 0 – September 25, 2010

Leeds ended a wretched run of results against the Blades – they'd gone 17 years without winning – when Bradley Johnson scored with five minutes remaining, from Robert Snodgrass’ cross. Jon Ertl headed against the bar in stoppage time and the normally very calm Jamie Ward was sent off soon after that for Gary Speed’s side after a poor tackle on Neil Kilkenny.
