What Graham Potter made of John Lundstram's red card in Sheffield United's draw at Brighton and Hove Albion

Lundstram's initial yellow card for the challenge was upgraded to a red after Peter Bankes was invited to review the challenge on his pitchside monitor by VAR.

United went on to lead 1-0 thanks to sub Jayden Bogle's goal on his Premier League debut, before United's hopes of securing their first win of the season were dashed late on when Danny Welbeck came off the bench to score from close range and deny United all three points.

Alireza Jahanbakhsh hit the bar in injury time for the hosts but the talking point was undoubtedly Lundstram's red card, which comes as a double blow for the Blades after news that fellow midfielder Sander Berge will be out for the next three months with injury.

"It was a hefty challenge," Potter said afterwards.

"I thought it was a red card. At that speed and he's gone over the top, you're asking for trouble."

On the game overall, Potter added: "I thought we were the better team but the red card changes the complexion of the game, it becomes defence v attack and we got caught on the break.

"They defended well and had Burke as the running machine up top so they can break if we get things wrong, so it isn't straightforward even if they had 10 men. We had to be patient and have character and courage, but I'm disappointed we only had one goal today."
