John Egan ensured Chris Wilder’s team remained above the hosts in the Premier League table when he cancelled-out James Tarkowski’s opener during the closing stages of the first-half.

“I thought it was a really right contest against a really competitive Sheffield United,” Dyche said. “You know they will always bring that competitive nature with them.

“Chrissy will have been disappointed not to see them do more with a couple of the chances they created early on and then we’ve had some golden ones as well, to be fair.”

Dyche and Wilder made no secret of their respect for one another before kick-off, drawing comparisons between the two clubs’ values and approach. Despite employing different tactical templates, those also extend what they look for in a footballer with Sander Berge, the United midfielder, a one-time target of Burnley while United once considered a move for the hosts’ centre-forward Matej Vydra.

“You know what Sheffield United are going to bring,” Dyche went on to say. “And, whatever else happs, that’s always the right attitude.”
