There's nothing quite like being inside the Lane on matchday to soak up the atmosphere, catch up with friends who sit – or stand – around you and, of course, to hopefully cheer on your heroes to victory.

Every fan has their match day ritual, from enjoying a pre-match pint or two in the boozer to placing a bet in the bookies on the first goalscorer ahead of kick-off.

Of course, these are things we’ve all sorely missed during the coronavirus crisis and none of us can wait to get back inside Bramall Lane to support Chris Wilder’s side in their second season back in the Premier League.

So, what memories of their first United game do Blades fans have?

Let’s take a look at what some of you have had to say on our Facebook page in the second instalment of ‘my first game’ feature.

John Sayers

“Was taken to a Blades game around 1973, however can't remember who it was against. So my 'first' game was Sheffield United 2 Fulham 1 1977-78 season.”

"Early 60s v Stoke City and Stanley Matthews was playing that day.”

Matt Costello

“Blades v Forest 2000. I think it was won 2-1. Was 1 0 down then Martin Smith, I think it was, scored twice in a matter of minutes. Been hooked since.”

Graham Morement

"Mid-60s against Forest at home. Lost 1-3. Mick Jones scored and they sold him not long afterwards.”

Mark Watts

"West Ham, Tony Currie goal. Quality goal from a quality player. Match of the Day will never forget that.”

Neill Caudwell

“1974/5 v QPR. 1-1. Woody scored for us!”

Ian Sharman

“Blades 7 Ipswich 0 (1971), enough said.”

“Five weeks old. FA Cup replay against Fulham. 3-1 win in 1967.”

Robert Pinder

"Blades versus Birmingham City won 4-0, 1999.”

Shaun Clulee

"I stood on the Kop right at the front behind the goal versus Villa in February ‘76. We won 2-1. It was only our second win of the season! An old chap standing next to me said at the end ‘we won! You can come again, son’.”

Matthew A. Wilkinson

“1989 v Ipswich. 2-0, in my favourite south stand.”
