Bryan was offered fresh terms after some impressive displays at Premier League level last season, including his first goal in United colours to help secure a memorable victory at Manchester United.

Bryan suffered a frustrating start to life at United, being stuck behind Jack O’Connell in the pecking order, but made the most of his unexpected chance last season to give Blades fans a glimpse of what he can offer.

The former City trainee believes he is good enough to play at Premier League level and after making just 12 league starts for United in three seasons, may yet decide to move on in the pursuit of first-team football.

And one club linked with his services are United’s Championship rivals West Brom, who were also relegated from the Premier League last season and are still negotiating over bringing the Barnsley manager Valérien Ismaël to the Hawthorns to replace Sam Allardyce at the helm.

United are hardly short of options down the left-hand side of their defence, with Jack Robinson stepping in to deputise for O’Connell towards the back end of the season and Rhys Norrington-Davies – regarded by United’s previous coaching staff as O’Connell’s natural successor – returning from his loan spell at Stoke City.
