No team from outside the top two tiers of competition has ever contested the most coveted domestic knockout trophy since Tottenham Hotspur, then a non-league outfit, in 1901.
And, as Nigel Clough outlined earlier this week, despite their lower league status, it is one Sheffield United are determined to grasp with both hands.
“We’re not going down there just to have a nice day out,” he said. “We’re going down there to do our best and to try and get through. We realise that we’re not the favourtites and that everyone is expecting our opponents to win.
“But we’ve upset the odds before and we’ll be looking to do it again. We can’t guarantee a result but we will be giving everything we’ve got to try and get the job done.”
