And, after concluding his post-match media duties, the 17-year-old received a brilliant reception when he finally returned to the portacabin that doubled as United’s changing room at Goodison Park.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who pulled off a string of fine saves to help ensure the three points went the way of United, joked that he should have won the man of the match award, but no-one at United could begrudge Jebbison his much-deserved moment in the spotlight.

Still only 17 years of age, Jebbison earned a start after coming off the bench against Crystal Palace last weekend and grasped his opportunity with both hands, tapping home with a poacher’s finish after a good run and cross from defender Jack Robinson.

“I’m just thankful for the opportunity given to me by the club,” Jebbison said.

“It’s crazy. I can’t describe the feeling but it’s amazing. I knew I was playing yesterday and I couldn’t stop smiling, I couldn’t sleep and I just tried to make the most of it.

“It was good to get the three points, we’ve been struggling a bit but the boys are buzzing with the win.”
