Oli McBurnie had the best chances for the Blades, while Morgan Gibbs- White saw a shot deflected over the bar.
The Tigers had some decent opportunities themselves, with the impressive Keane Lewis-Potter looking dangerous down the left flank.
Ultimately both sides had to settle for a point – City’s first in four matches – with United back in action here at Bramall Lane this weekend against Swansea City.
Here’s how we rated United’s players…

9. Morgan Gibbs-White 5
Had a decent early chance when a cross found its way into his path, but his shot was blocked just over the bar. Another quiet game from the Wolves loanee, who hasn't been able to pick up where he left off following his injury absence Photo: Simon Bellis

10. Iliman Ndiaye 5
Recalled as one of four changes made by boss Heckingbottom, Ndiaye had a great chance to break the deadlock when United broke and he was sent through one-on-one. But just like West Brom at home, he couldn't convert and his effort was saved Photo: Simon Bellis

11. Oli McBurnie 4
Worked back defensively early on and put in a big tackle on the halfway line to win the ball back. But wasn't his night in front of goal at all as he missed a number of chances, or was denied by Ingram. Photo: George Wood

12. Subs: Billy Sharp 5
Came on for Ndiaye but couldn't find that elusive winner Photo: George Wood
