Warnock claims Sheffield Utd boss Wilder has 'credit in the bank', slams 'lazy' questions over Bramall Lane future

The Blades continued their torrid start to the season with a 1-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday.

That result leaves United with just one point from their opening nine top flight outings, and led to questions from some quarters over Wilder's future at the club during his post-match press conference.

For his part, the manager delivered a bullish defence of his position, and speaking on Sky Sports News’ Football Show, Warnock suggested that the 53-year-old should have nothing to worry about.

"It's a results-driven industry, and you'll always get people asking the question”, the former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Leeds defender said.

“I think it’s a lazy question because you look at the job that he’s done over his time, not only at Sheffield United, but being a manager, his record’s incredible.

"You’re going to have tough times. This is the Premier League, you’re playing against elite teams.

"He’s brought in players, but to take them to that next level – it’s second season syndrome in the Premier League.

"It was always going to be difficult for them, but you have to stick with him. The job that he’s done, he’s got credit in the bank – more than enough.

“Obviously, he’s got the best interests of Sheffield United at heart, with being a fan”.

When Wilder took over at Bramall Lane, the Blades were 11th in League One. Last season, he guided United to top half finish upon their Premier League return.
