Vinnie Jones backs Sheffield United to qualify for Europe - and tips key man to 'step up to plate' in Premier League run-in

Vinnie Jones has backed his former club Sheffield United to push for an European spot when the Premier League resumes later this month.

Chris Wilder's side, who kick-off the league campaign after the coronavirus suspension away at Aston Villa, are seventh in the Premier League table - just two points off Manchester United in fifth, and with a game in hand.

Manchester City's UEFA ban may mean that fifth place qualifies for the Champions League if it is upheld and Jones, in his column for Easy Odds, wrote: "I’m interested how far Chrissy Wilder can take his Sheffield United side for the rest of the season.

"Chrissy has done an amazing job. Liverpool aside, they’ve been the team of the season for me and they’re really pushing for Europe now. With ten games left, Sheffield Utd are seventh, just behind Wolves but in front of Spurs and Arsenal. Who’d have thought?

"We’ll get an early chance to see how they’ve done in lockdown because they’re facing Aston Villa away on the first day of the restart - and I’m looking forward to seeing Oli McBurnie stepping up to the plate big-time.

"The word coming out of Bramall Lane is that he’s fit and ready to do the business. If the Scot hits the ground running and, more importantly, hits the back of the net then Sheffield United will really make a play for a top six finish. That’d be something."
