Sheffield United goal hero Jamie Murphy admitted a few brief words of inspiration from assistant manager Andy Garner provided the catalyst for his dramatic winning goal against Gillingham at Bramall Lane.
The Blades were surprisingly a goal down with seven minuites remaining having been on top for almost the entire game, however Michael Higdon’s equaliser brought Nigel Clough’s side back into it and six minutes into injury time, Murphy completed the turnaround with a stunning solo goal that lifted the roof off the old stadium.
Murphy said: “Andy Garner, the assistant, just gave me a wee word in my ear with about five minutes to go (saying) if you get a chance, run at them and I managed to do that and squeeze the ball through (the keeper’s) legs. It was a great moment for myself and I’m sure for the fans.”
