Sheffield United 4 Middlesbrough 1: Paul Heckingbottom and Chris Wilder reaction as Blades go up to fifth
and live on Freeview channel 276
Wilder left United almost a year ago, after a hugely successful time in charge of his boyhood club.
Here’s how managers Paul Heckingbottom and Wilder reacted as the Blades went up to fifth.
Blades v Boro LIVE
GOAAAAAL BLADES
AND IT’S THREE - Jack Robinson gets in on the act with a right-footed volley after John Egan headed a deep corner back across goal! The Blades are three to the good just before the hour and Boro respond by making a double change, throwing on Watmore and Balogun
Boro have the ball
in the net through Connolly, from Jones’ pass, but he’s well offside and the flag subsequently goes up as soon as he hits it
Bit of handbags
between Peltier and Sharp sees both end up on the floor and both go into the referee’s notebook, before a poor backpass from Boro gives United a corner that eventually leads to nothing
Half time
and the Blades will be delighted with their first-half work as two quickfire goals have put them in control here - there were a few signs from Boro, including a good Sporar chance, that this game isn’t completely over just yet and United will have to be honest and professional in the second half, but they will back themselves to do so and see out what would be a big three points at the Lane.
First half player ratings
Foderingham 7
Osborn 7
Davies 7
Egan 7
Robinson 7.5
Norrington-Davies 6.5
Norwood 7
Berge 8
Fleck 6 (Hourihane 6)
Gibbs-White 8
Sharp 8
Should be 3-0
to the Blades as Gibbs-White breaks through one-on-one and shoots this time, but Lumley saves with his legs
Big chance for Boro
to get back into it as Jones turns on the afterburners down the right, his cross picks out Sporar in space and he looks favourite to test Foderingham - but he gets it horribly wrong and puts it over the bar. A good reminder to the Blades that this game isn’t over yet ...
GOAAAAAL BLADES!!!
and it’s 2-0 for the Blades as Gibbs-White squares to him for an unmissable chance - the Wolves loanee took it as far as he could before squaring unselfishly for Sharp to tap into an empty net to send Bramall Lane wild
GOAL BLADESSSS
AND it’s Sander Berge who gets it, a little on the fortunate side as Lumley’s save deflects back off the defender and leaves him with a simple tap in but United won’t care a jot - it came from a good bit of play from Sharp, Berge bust a gut to get in the box and it paid off with a tap in for the opener
