SECOND-placed Sheffield United slipped to a 3-2 defeat at Walsall last night.
Despite second-half strikes from Lee Williamson and top-scorer Ched Evans, the Blades fell to a third defeat in four outings at the Banks’s Stadium.
All the goals came after the break. West Brom loanee Sam Mantom netted the opener for the hosts only for Williamson to make the scores level on 65 minutes.
Former Barnsley striker Jon Macken made it 2-1 before Evans grabbed his 23rd goal of the campaign with 16 minutes remaining.
But relegation-threatened Walsall claimed maximum points courtesy of Alex Nicholls’ late strike.
Blades manager Danny Wilson had reshuffled his injury-hit back four, handing debuts to new loan recruits Matt Hill and John Egan, who arrived on a temporary basis from Blackpool and Sunderland respectively earlier in the day. He paired Hill and Egan together at the heart of the defence, playing Austrian international Johannes Ertl at right-back and the returning Andy Taylor on the opposite flank.
