With Sander Berge completing his record breaking move to Sheffield United yesterday, and Jack Robinson and Jack Rodwell arriving earlier in the window, Chris Wilder’s focus today will be on completing loan deals for Richairo Zivkovic and Panagiotis Retsos from Changchun Yatai and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.

Retsos, a Greece international, is already thought to have met with the United manager after a facility fee, though to be somewhere in the region of £500,000, was agreed with the Bundesliga club.

But negotiations with Yatai, aimed at delivering Zivkovic to South Yorkshire, could prove more problematic despite the Chinese Football Association’s decision to indefinitely suspend their entire domestic season, which had been due to start next month, following the coronavirus outbreak.

Retsos could provide cover and competition at centre-half while Berge, who plays for Norway, is a midfielder.

United, who Wilder insisted yesterday do not expect to lose any of their senior players, are also looking to arrange the exits of players including Jake Wright and Leon Clarke who, if Dutch striker Zivkovic is allowed to depart, could find himself cut from their Premier League squad list.

Temporary transfers or permanent deals will both be considered, with Wilder admitting he he “very surprised” Clarke has yet to attract any offers.
