Surprise call-up for former Blade as Sheffield United pair named in Scotland squad

Former Blades striker Che Adams, now playing for Southampton, was also included in manager Steve Clarke’s team.

The former England Under-20 international reportedly rejected an approach by the Scottish Football Association to switch allegiances in 2019.

There was no place in the squad for United forward Oliver Burke, whose thirteenth and last cap for his country came in November 2020 against Israel.

He and McBurnie have just three goals between them this season.

Scotland will face Austria at home on 25 March, Israel away three days later and Faroe Islands at home on 31 March.

This month's opening qualifiers for Qatar 2022 are Scotland's last scheduled matches before their European Championship games with Czech Republic, England and Croatia at this summer's finals.

Adams, 24, has scored seven goals this season, including a goal in each of his two appearances against Sheffield United.
