Admitting that his first few months at Bramall Lane proved to be a steep learning curve, as he not only adjusted to life at a new club but also a different tactical approach, the Scotland centre-forward is itching for the chance to put the knowledge he has acquired to good use.

“I had to adapt when I came here,” McBurnie, a summer signing from Swansea City, said. “It’s a different style to there and I’ve had to work on my physicality a lot more too.

“But I feel I’m really seeing the rewards of that work now. I feel a lot more capable and confident. I feel I’ve got a lot more know-how.”
