Storm Ciara prevents Sander Berge's family from attending his Sheffield United home debut

Storm Ciara has prevented Sander Berge’s mother and brother from watching him make his home debut for Sheffield United against AFC Bournemouth at Bramall Lane this afternoon.

The Norwegian midfielder’s mum Linnea and his brother Aksel Bolin’s flight to Manchester from Oslo on Sunday was unable to land due to the stormy weather which is battering Britain.

“We had looked forward to this,” said Berge’s mum. “It had been a big event to join. It's the home-team debut.”

TV 2 commentator Peder Mørvedvedt, who was also on the flight and on his way to Bramall Lane to cover the game, revealed the SAS flight from the Norwegian capital tried to land twice before it had to give up and return.

United’s clash with the Cherries is still on despite the atrocious weather, but the day’s other Premier League game between Manchester City and West Ham at the Etihad Stadium has been postponed.
