The Arsenal loanee scored a header in the dying moments of first-half injury time for United’s 29th defeat of the campaign, equalling the Premier League record with one game left to play.

“It was real quality,” the former Blades boss said.

“We had some good opportunities and didn’t take them but the goal was the bit of real quality. It was a good pass, a great cross and it had to be Joe again. Six in six is some achievement.”

Bruce led his side on a post-match lap of honour as St. James’ Park welcomed fans back, but there were some post-match boos from the terraces.

“I’m never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, unfortunately,” Bruce said.

“I accept that, it’s just the way it is. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, that’s the way it is unfortunately.”
