Frustration was on show throughout a game which turned out to be United’s fourth loss in five games. Fans ironically chanted “We’ve had a shot!” after one effort, although they were off their seats when Kalvin Phillips gave them the lead soon after.
United looked decent value for a much-needed result to stop the rot but were left heartbroken by two late goals from outside the box as Stoke celebrated taking a 13th point from their last 15 available.
